Cooking is a great way to bring family and friends together at any time of the year, but the holidays are the number one cause of home fires. These safety tips can help prevent these disasters.
- Make sure to always be on alert.
- Always stay in the kitchen while boiling, frying, or grilling.
- If you are baking set a timer to remind you and check the food regularly.
- Keep anything that is flammable away from the stove.
- If you have a small grease fire smother the flames by sliding a lid over the pan and turn off the burner.
- For an oven, fire turns off the heat, and keep the oven door closed.
- If you don’t think you can contain the flames get out and call 911.
